Past Scholarship Awards Winners
2006 Scholarship Recipients
The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) Education Trust selected the recipients of its Education Subsidy Award program, providing winners from 16 different schools spread across four countries with the opportunity to attend Enlighten 2006 in San Diego, CA, the 6th Annual IALD Education Conference & Annual Meeting.
Of the almost 50 applications, these individuals stood out as leaders and innovators with the potential to further the future of the lighting design industry:

2004 Scholarship Recipients
The IALD Education Trust Fund awarded seven students in lighting design from around the world a total of $14,000 in scholarships, as well as trips to LightFair International.

Mr. Konstantinos Predaris, recipient of the IALD Education Trust's $5,000 scholarship and a trip to LightFair. Konstantinos attends the Parsons School of Design and will be graduating in May 2004.

Mr. Jonathan Protzman, recipient of the IALD Education Trust's $2,000 scholarship and a trip to LightFair. Jonathan attends the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and will graduate in May 2007.

Ms. Vicky Wing Yee Pang, recipient of the IALD Education Trust's $2,000 scholarship. Ms. Wing Yee Pang attends Parsons School of Design and will graduate in May 2004.

Mr. Philipp Stegmuller, recipient of the IALD Education Trust's $2,000 scholarship. Mr. Stegmuller attends the University of Wismar and will graduate in September 2005.

Mr. Joseph Maino, recipient of the IALD Education Trust's $1,000. Joseph attands Pennsylvania State University and will graduate in May 2006.

Ms. Aki Ishiyama, recipient of Lighting Design Alliance $2,000 scholarship as well as a $500 trip to LightFair. Aki attends California College of the Arts and will graduate in May 2006.
2003 Scholarship Recipients
The IALD Education Trust Fund awarded four students in lighting design from around the world a total of $8,00 in scholarships, as well as trips to LIGHTFAIR International. They also awarded a $1,000 grant to be used to attend the IALD Educational Conference, part of the IALD annual meeting.

Ms. Y-Cheng Chuang (aka Jennifer), recipient of the IALD Trust's $3,500 scholarship and a trip to Light Fair. Jennifer attends the Parson School of Design and will be graduating in August 2003.

Mr. Jason Neches, recipient of the Lighting Design Alliance $2,000 scholarship, full LightFair conference pass, and a travel stipend. Mr. Neches is currently attending Lighting Research Center at Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute and will be graduating in August 2003.

Ms. Irene Benjumea, of the IALD Trust's $2,000 scholarship. Irene is currently attending the Parsons School of Design and will be graduating this summer.

Ms. Shiri Cnaani, recipient of the IALD Trust's $2,000 scholarship. Ms. Cnaani attends the Parsons School of Design and will be graduating this summer.

Mr. Ian Smith, received the IALD Trust's $1,000 grant. Ian spent the last four years learning the ropes via stage lighting and next year will attend the Cornish College of Arts in Spokane.
2002 Scholarship Recipients

Mr. Peping Dee, Jr., recipient of the IALD Trust's $3,000 scholarship and a trip to LightFair 2002. He working on his Master of Science in Lighting at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.

Mr. Craig Spring, recipient of the Lighting Design Alliance Scholarship received $2,000 and $500 for travel to LightFair 2000. He is currently working his Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder, CO.

Mr. Conor Sampson, received the $2,000 Architectural Lighting Magazine/IALD Education Trust Scholarship. Conor is currently enrolled in the Masters of Lighting Design Program at Parsons School of Design, New School University in New York, NY.

Ms. Eleni Savvidou, received a special grant award of $500. Eleni is enrolled in the Master in Lighting Design program at Parsons School of Design, New School University in New York, NY.

Ms. Lei Feng, also received a special grant award of $500. She is currently enrolled in the Master of Design Science (Illumination Design) program at the University of Sydney in Australia.
2001 Scholarship Recipients

Kanlaya Leehanantakul is a graduate student in the lighting design program at Parsons School of Design in New York City. She has an undergraduate degree in architecture from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology in Thailand. Upon graduation, she is looking forward to working as a professional in the lighting community. "I have understood that without lighting design, interior space could not generate the great impression. The greater impact that lighting design has the more successful interior design will be. She was awarded a $2,500 IALD Education Trust scholarship and an all expenses paid trip to LIGHTFAIR International.

Nandini Mukherjee is a graduate student in the lighting design program at Parsons School of Design in New York City. She has an undergraduate degree in architecture. Ms. Mukherjee's interest in lighting began early. "My first experience with light; growing up as a child in India; was during Diwali, the festival of lights. I remember standing on the streets, taking in row after row of illuminated structures, mesmerized by the 'architecture of light' ". She was awarded a $2,500 IALD Education Trust scholarship and an all expenses paid trip to LIGHTFAIR International.

Sui Fang is a graduate student at the University of Southern California, School of Architecture, and is now working on a Masters of Building Science. She has an undergraduate in architecture from University in Tianjin, China. Ms Fang told the judges "In my first lighting design in the class, I found my interior design was much more interesting although there were fewer furniture design. At that time, I found what was lacking in my previous interior designs - light! Visual perception is based entirely on light." Ms. Fang received a $2,500 scholarship sponsored by The Lighting Design Alliance and an all expenses paid trip to LIGHTFAIR International.

Matthew Meier is an undergraduate student at the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas, studying architectural engineering with an emphasis on illumination. About his chosen field, Mr. Meier said, "I am fascinated by light. I want to design with the understanding of light that I have gained at this university?this experience has made me pay extra attention to what happens along light's path from natural and man-made sources to the human eye." Mr. Meier received a $2,500 scholarship cosponsored by Architectural Lighting Magazine and the IALD Education Trust Fund and an all expenses paid trip to LIGHTFAIR International.
2000 Scholarship Recipients
The IALD Education Trust Fund awarded six aspiring architectural lighting design students from around the world a total of $10,000 in scholarships and cash awards.

Tuuli Somma, of Helsinki, Finland, who received a $1,500 scholarship from IALD and an all-expense paid trip to attend LIGHTFAIR International. Somma is pursuing a Master of Art degree in Industrial Design from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, Finland.

Emily Emerson, of Easton, KS, who received a $2,000 scholarship sponsored by Lighting Design Alliance and a $500 travel stipend to attend LIGHTFAIR. Emerson is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University.

Swapna Sundaram, of New Delhi, India. She received a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by Architectural Lighting magazine. Sundaram received her Master of Architecture degree in Architectural Technology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Brad Koerner, of Boston, MA, who received a $1,000 scholarship from IALD. Koerner is pursuing a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University School of Design. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Virginia.

Sandra Loren Park, of Glendale, CA, who received a $1,000 scholarship from IALD. Park is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from George Washington University. She received a Master of Art degree in International Development and a Bachelor of Art degree in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania.

Paul Wraa of Pleasant Hill, CA, who received a $1,000 scholarship from IALD. Wraa is pursuing an Associate of Art degree in Industrial Design from the Art Institute of Seattle.
1999 Scholarship Recipients
The IALD Education Trust Fund awarded four scholarships.

Vannapa Pimiviriyakul is the recipient of the $1,500 IALD scholarship and a trip to LIGHTFAIR. Ms. Pimiviriyakul is a doctoral student in the Department of Architecture at Texas A& M University.

Mark Wallberg, a masters student at Parsons School of Design in New York, received the IALD $500 grant as a scholarship.

Zac Moseley, a student in the architectural engineering program at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
