2007 IALD Award Winners (24th Annual)

24th Annual IALD International Lighting Design Award Winners
Represent Best of Global Design Community
Winners from 6 Countries & Each Judging Category

New York City, NY, U.S.A.,  9 May 2007 - Twenty winners representing six countries comprise the winners of the 24th Annual International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) International Lighting Design Award Winners roster, and were recognized at a presentation held 9 May at Columbia University's Lerner Hall. In this year's mix of winners, all seven submission categories received representation. Of the 20 projects recognized, three entries earned Special Citations, 12 earned Awards of Merit and six earned Awards of Excellence. The highest point score winner across all categories, in addition to receiving an Award of Excellence for their project, receives recognition as The Radiance Award Winner – acknowledged as the highest achievement in lighting design award honors.

Accepting the Radiance Award for Excellence in Lighting Design was Lighting Planners Associates, Inc. for its submission into the monumental structure/public spaces category. IALD Member Karou Mende, Ryuichi Sawada, Hirohito Totsune and Aki Hayakawa are credited for their work on the Chino Cultural Complex in Nagano, Japan. This project's award-winning qualities, as well as briefs on all other winning projects, are included in separate releases with images and credits where approval has been given.

Chino Cultural Complex Wins Coveted IALD Radiance Award
Lighting Planners Associates Takes Home 2nd Radiance Award


New York, NY, U.S.A., 9 May 2007 –The 24th Annual IALD International Lighting Design Awards, presented by the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) on 9 May 2007, recognized the Chino Cultural Complex with the IALD Radiance Award of Excellence for Lighting Design. This prestigious international design award was presented to principal lighting designer Karou Mende, IALD, of Lighting Planners Associates, Inc. in Tokyo, Japan. Additionally, this year Mr. Mende earned an Award of Merit for Changi Airport – the project that earned his firm its first Radiance Award. Other lighting designers on the Chino project included Ryuichi Sawada, Hirohita Totsune and Aki Hayakawa. The project first earned an Award of Excellence and as the highest point earner, was then awarded this Radiance Award. It is issued in the monumental structures/public spaces category.
