Chapter Spotlight: IALD Nordic
The IALD currently facilitates over 25 geographic Regions and Chapters within them that support the interests of our diverse lighting, design, and architecture communities. These interconnected networks provide a way to connect with like-minded individuals, create meaningful programs, and build communities that transcend borders.
In recognition of these hard-working collectives, we celebrate the IALD Nordic Chapter, who involve and engage with those in Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.
The Nordic chapter is particularly attuned to the many university programs within its territory that prepare the next generation of lighting designers, as well as local events and programs that embrace and energize emerging talents, such as Sweden's Lights in Alingsås workshop.
With such a vast population of lighting enthusiasts, from professionals to university students, a full roster of chapter coordinators volunteer their time and talents:
- Kristin Bredal, IALD, is the founder, CEO, and Chief Designer of Zenisk, a design office specializing in urban- and architectural lighting design. Her work ranges from lighting master plans, exhibition spaces, light art, and architectural lighting. To her, sustainability is not just a box to tick; it is a core value she implements in all projects.
- Jørgen Kjer, IALD, is an established lighting designer with Cowi A/S in Denmark. He has been working with lighting design for many years, and has been a tremendous asset to recently graduated lighting designers seeking advisement on their new careers.
- Iris Molendijk, Jr. Assoc. IALD, is a lighting designer on indoor and outdoor projects working for Norconsult AB in Stockholm. She holds a Bachelor's in Interior Design & Styling from Saxion University of Applied Sciences and a Master's in Architectural Lighting Design from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. She also has a background as a research engineer on projects related to light and health, luminous color, and Nordic after-dark environments.
- Mihkel Pajuste, Educator IALD, is a Copenhagen-based lighting designer interested in lighting from design to research. He holds an MSc in Lighting Design and a BA in Visual Communication. In addition to his design projects and collaborations, he is a lecturer at Aalborg University Copenhagen and a visiting lecturer at Pallas University of Applied Sciences.
- Tina Wikstrom, Jr. Assoc. IALD, is a lighting designer with White Arkitekter in Stockholm, Sweden. With a Bachelor of Science in Lighting Design from Jönköping University and a Master of Science in Lighting Design from Aalborg University, Tina also participated in the 2015 Lights in Alingsås workshop.
